This lens has the same focal range as the kit canon 18-55mm, so anyone with
that lens will know what kind of range it covers. But this lens is altogether
in a different league in terms of optical quality and price! But if you have the money, get yourself a copy, because used properly, it will amaze you. The build quality is what you can expect from a high end consumer canon. There is no hood or pouch, which is a shame, because canon could have included these. The hood is quite important as the lens has 1 achilles heel: flare. This lens suffers from flare on some shots, and many times you will notice this after you bring the image up on screen. But aside from this
I would recommend this lens if youre serious about getting the best from your APS-C DSLR, and you are not intending to move up to full frame in the next few years.

This lens really is as good as they say. Ive bought enough lenses over the years to know that sometimes it takes a while to appreciate a lens, but this one showed its colours (and more importantly its sharpness) on the first serious outing). It really is the best walkaround length on a crop camera, and I never notice the gap to 70 where my next lens starts.
